NEW 2015-2016 WEEKLY CLASSES!

Registration Confirmation: Applications are accepted now and are recorded for priority, but registration confirmations will not begin until September 5th. Tuition payments can only be made after you receive a registration confirmation.

Costs: Tuition, books, materials, instruments, and supplies are provided free of cost to registered Hope Academy students. Needs-based financial aid is available to partially-offset class tuition for those other students who qualify (subject to availability). All classes include the use of books at no additional charge. Art students may need to purchase some limited supplies, and musical instruments are not included in the tuition (except that Piano students will be provided instruments for use in the classroom). All classes are $315 each — except Music 4 Kids! and Theater 4 Kids! classes are $180, and being a member of the Academy Players is free. Tuition may be paid using credit card, debit card, PayPal, or automated bank withdrawals in nine (9) monthly installments through the on-line payment portal, and a 5% discount is offered for any tuition payments made in full by the first day of attendance.

THEATER 4 KIDS! is a fun, yet focused, introductory theater class for beginning elementary school students. The class enables young children to creatively and collaboratively explore the fundamental elements of acting and live theater.

THEATER — I (Grades 4-6)

THEATER — II is an intermediate/advanced theater class that guides experienced students in rehearsal of appropriate theater elements—acting techniques, pantomime, vocal projection, character development, scene study, monologues, improvisation, stage management, and more. Students must have already had stage experience, acting class experience, and must be reviewed by placement dependent upon faculty’s evaluation of the student.

ACADEMY PLAYERS (By Audition)

The ACADEMY PLAYERS class offers performance-based opportunities and takes the actors through audition, casting, blocking, table read, and rehearsal to a final performance of a selected play. Students must be enrolled in an HDAA theater class, must be at least in the 4th grade, and must audition and be accepted by the faculty in order to participate. There is no cost for this class. The ACADEMY PLAYERS perform an entire production at the end of the school year, and select participants may be given the opportunity to be a part of the Cultural Center’s full stage productions.

MUSIC FUNDAMENTALS FOR MUSICAL THEATER offers the study of harmony, theory and ear training as it applies to students interested in musical theater. The YOUTH CHORUS class offers a high quality vocal arts education to students in a professional school setting. Students will learn basic music elements, note & rhythm reading, harmony, and technical execution of their voice. Students will also learn and be guided in rehearsal of appropriate music materials – technique, diction, breath support, projection, song form, solo & ensemble performance in a wide range of styles, note & rhythm reading, harmony, etc.

The PIANO I Youth Piano Conservatory class is designed for beginning students of the piano who want to study basic keyboard skills and music theory, and develop regular practice habits. During both group and individual class instruction students learn to read solo and ensemble piano scores. Regular access to a piano or keyboard between classes is required to complete weekly assignments successfully. Class assignment is at the discretion of the instructor.

  • Instruments in the Piano Lab will be provided to all students for use during class.
  • ALL students must have access to their own piano or weighted-action keyboard instrument for home practice.
PIANO — II (Grades 4-12)

The PIANO II Youth Piano Conservatory class is appropriate for students with experience reading music who want to improve their reading skills, develop their finger technique and learn pieces of various styles from classical to pop to jazz. Pianists work individually and in groups studying notation, harmony, scales, chords and finger exercises to achieve more facility at the keyboard. Regular access to a piano or keyboard between classes is required to complete weekly assignments successfully. Class assignment is at the discretion of the instructor.

Students will learn basic music elements, note & rhythm reading, and technical execution of their respective brass instruments. Students will also learn and be guided in rehearsal of appropriate music materials – technique, songs, sketches, Youth Philharmonic performance repertoire, chamber ensembles, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT BRASS INSTRUMENTS:

  • Hope Academy students will have an instrument provided for them. All other students must provide their own instrument. The Cultural Center may have instruments for rent based on availability.
  • ALL students (Hope Academy & other) are responsible for providing their own. . .

Instruments available for study include, but may not be limited to: orchestral and auxiliary percussion, drum set, timpani and other tuned percussion, and hand/ethnic percussion. Students will learn basic music elements, note & rhythm reading, rudiments, and technical execution of their respective percussion instruments. Students will learn and be guided in rehearsal of appropriate music materials – technique, songs, sketches, Youth Philharmonic performance repertoire, chamber ensembles, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DRUM & PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS:

The ART for students grades 4th-6th class offers a high quality education in the visual arts focusing on both drawing and watercolor mediums. In a new state-of-the-art classroom lit by halogen and natural light complete with modern personal adjustable drafting tables and a large 60″ flat screen Blu-Ray display, students will learn about lines, texture, shape, perspective, and many other important elements and fundamentals of the visual arts. They will also learn many Composition Keys as they apply to still life, landscape, figure drawing, and more.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ART MATERIALS:

  • All art materials including paper, paints, markers, pencils, brushes, etc. must be provided by the student. Financial assistance may be available.

GREAT NEWS FOR SEASON PACKAGE TICKET HOLDERS! Should your schedule change and you find yourself needing to attend a performance on a different date — if you give the Box Office at least 48 hours notice prior to your ticketed performance, management will attempt to exchange your ticket for a different performance of the same show!
